Subramanian Swamy

Senior BJP Leader

On 8th of April 2014 The Ballroom at The Oberoi Grand, Kolkata saw a packed house despite it being a weekday afternoon. Prominent members of Kolkata Inc. were present to hear Dr. Subramanian Swamy give his candid views on "Elections 2014: An Insider's Perspective"
This was a first of a kind event in Kolkata known for its deep political intellect. It was also the first time India First moved out of Bombay to organise an event under its Speaker Series.

The moderator for the event was Utpal Chatterjee, a widely acclaimed journalist and a former Sheriff of Kolkata. Dr. Swamy gave his views on a wide range of issues from internal decision making process in the party to the economic importance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He also expressed his concern over Rahul Gandhi as a Prime Ministerial candidate punched with his uncanny sense of humor. Asked about the 'Power of 49' he explained how Hindu mythology considered Shakti as the supreme power and the same should be upheld in today's society.

In the end he gave a word of advice and explained to all voters how it is important to vote only for the candidate / party of their choice no matter what the chances of winning or losing were as the total count of votes is a great moral support to the candidate despite a loss.

India First got an overwhelming response of twice the expected numbers! We had 300 chairs at the event - but had to increase it to 550 as the event started as people kept pouring in. The event was covered both by the Times of India and Sanmarg. We received tremendous feedback, with many people requesting to start the Kolkata chapter of India First. This is only the first step towards a long lasting relationship with the city considered by many to be the birthplace of Indian Politics
