India First’s inaugural speaker series was held on 25th February at the MCA Club in BKC featuring Piyush Goyal, National Treasurer of the BJP. The crowd was mostly corporate and made up of bankers, private equity financiers and industry people.
While Piyush had indicated that he would like to speak for 30 minutes and then field Q&A, the actual output turned out a bit differently! Shreevar Kheruka made the introduction to Piyush and then handed over the stage to Suraj, who was the moderator for the event. Piyush started giving his speech and was very clear and lucid in his approach. He spoke at length about the 3 main things that the party was going to do in order to get back to a growth environment:
- Fight inflation by increasing supply rather than by crushing demand
- Good governance - focus on outcomes rather than outlays
- Creation of skills for helping people get employment and create 200 million jobs
Each of these 3 points was enunciated with numerous examples of how action could be taken. In fact, he got so passionate about the topic that his speech ended up lasting more a little over an hour!
